As an apprentice you will be expected to work between 30 to 40 hours a week. Any day release to college will be included as part of your working week.
As an apprentice you will be working in a real job and earning an apprentice wage of between £78 and £104 per week (from October 2011).
You will find that many employers choose to pay more than the minimium apprentice wage and may also offer incentives in pay to reflect your growing skills and achievements.
As an apprentice you will be taken on as an employee within that company on a fixed term or permanent contract. You will also be entitled to the same rights as the other employees in terms of holiday entitlement, pension schemes and so on.
