Childcare, Health and Social Care

About HealthTec:

A Joint Project:

HealthTec was a project conceived and developed between the then Birmingham and the Black Country Strategic Health Authority and the Oaks Collegiate. There are now 7 HealthTec's which are operational throughout the country with more opening in the future.

Aims:

HealthTec is a partnership developed between employers in health and social care, schools and colleges. Its purpose is to develop a new curriculum which aims to be more relevant to the needs of learners in relation to health and social care services.

HealthTec works because it's different:

HealthTec provides a fresh environment and a different way of learning whereby students acquire health knowledge and skills not from just books in traditional classrooms, but through vivid simulations and by meeting 'champions' from the real working world.

HealthTec successfully replicates real life situations in health and social care settings – like an older person's bedsit; travelling in an ambulance; an A&E bay; a ward cubicle and other facilities involved in both primary and secondary care.

The HealthTec mission:

The mission of HealthTec is to encourage and develop the future workforce by enthusing young people about science; to develop their understanding of their own health and well being and to promote the notion of active citizenship in relation to the use and development, of clinical and social services.

HealthTec provides:

  • School and 14–19 curriculum delivery and development.
  • Training and Continuing Professional Development Opportunities.
  • Supports the Public Health Agenda.
  • Advises on workforce development.
