The Foundation Degree in Engineering is a higher level qualification designed in association with Wolverhampton University and regional employers and combines academic study with workplace learning.


This qualification equips people with the relevant knowledge, understanding and skills to improve engineering performance and productivity in the workplace. The qualification draws on previous HNC's in Engineering which have had a long standing tradition at Telford College. The award can also form part of an honours degree, as well as being a valuable qualification reconised by industry.

Year 1:

  • Engineering Mathematics
  • Thermodynamics and Fluids
  • Engineering Materials
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Engineering Mechanics II
  • Industrial Engineering Practice (WBL)

Year 2:

  • Electronic Design
  • Control Systems
  • Engineering Management
  • Engineering Mechanics II
  • Work Based Learning Module (WBL)
  • Signal processing

Entry requirements:

  • NC/ND
  • Advanced GNVQ
  • 1 or more A Levels
  • Advanced Apprenticeship
  • NVQ 3
  • Mature candidates subject to interview

Direct entry onto year 2

Candidates with a suitable HNC can join the second year and then progress onto a degree
