The College will run a range of the above qualifications from September 2011.
These qualifications are designed for those already working or those wishing to gain employment within the industry.


Active IQ is the UK's leading health and fitness specific awarding body. We develop and award health and fitness qualifications that are delivered through a range of institutions including private training providers, universities, colleges and schools.

LEVEL 2 COURSES

Gym Based Instructor KP2CFIG117

Pre–requisites: 16 years of age, participate in gym sessions regularly.

Content: Theoretical knowledge: Anatomy and physiology; Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment; Principles of exercise, fitness and health; Know how to support clients who take part in Exercise and Physical activity.

Assessments: Multiple choice question paper and worksheets.

Practical: Planning gym-based exercise/instructing gym-based exercise: Includes purpose of machines and exercises found in the gym, how to plan and prepare a programme for specific individuals to ensure a safe and effective workout.

Duration: 6 weeks

Day/Times: Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 9.00am - 4.30 pm

Assessments: Multiple choice question paper, worksheets and practical assessment.

Practical: Planning gym-based exercise/instructing gym-based exercise: Includes purpose of machines and exercises found in the gym, how to plan and prepare a programme for specific individuals to ensure a safe and effective workout.

Duration: 12 weeks

Pre–requisites: 16 years of age, participate in aerobic classes on a regular basis.

Content: Online learning programme to cover: Anatomy and physiology; Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment; Principles of exercise, fitness and health; Know how to support clients who take part in Exercise and Physical activity.

Assessments: Multiple choice question paper, worksheets and practical assessments.

Practical: Planning group exercise to music/instructing group exercise to music: Includes structure of a class, breaking down music, how to plan and teach your own classes adaptions to exercise for individuals in your class.

Duration: 12 weeks plus assessments.

Day/Times: Saturday 09.00 to 16.30 Plus online package to complete

Circuit Training Instructor

Pre–requisites: 16 years of age, must have gained either Group Exercise to Music (level 2) or Gym based exercise instructor (level 2 ), participate in circuit classes.

Content: Practical element includes knowledge of circuit design, structuring classes how to work with music if you choose, how to plan and teach your own classes and adapt exercises to make them appropriate for your class.

Practical: Planning group exercise to music/instructing group exercise to music: Includes structure of a class, breaking down music, how to plan and teach your own classes adaptions to exercise for individuals in your class.

Duration: 3 days

Day/Times: 09.00 am - 4.30 pm

Personal Training KP3CCPT117

Pre–requisites: Level 2 Fitness Instructing certificate - 16 years of age.

Content: Underpinning Knowledge: Anatomy and Physiology for exercise; Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment; Principles of exercise, fitness and health; Know how to support clients who take part in Exercise and Physical activity; Applying the principles of nutrition as part of a personal training programme; Programming personal training with clients; Delivering personal training sessions.

Practical: Cardiovascular training systems, Resistance training methods, Core stability Periodsation, Assessing a client and supporting a client through exercise.

Duration: 8.5 weeks.

Indoor Group Cycling

Pre–requisites: Level 2 Gym Instructor or Exercise to music

Content: Structuring an indoor group cycling class; music break down; cycling techniques; warm up cool down.

LEVEL 3 COURSE

Exercise Referral Certificate

Pre–requisites: Must hold a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym, Exercise to Music or Aqua) or a Level 3 Personal Training Equivalent. Content: Function of exercise referral; Understand the role of physical activity in the maintenance of health and well-being; recommendations for health-related physical activity in adults; Dietary and nutritional guidelines for a range of clinical conditions; cause, presentation and treatments for a range of medical conditions; Prescribe safe and effective exercise for a range of medical conditions.

Assessment: Multiple choice question paper, worksheets, case study, practical observation.
