Gateway 2 Polymers

Telford College offers Gateway Qualifications for employees aged 16+ in Business Administration, Customer Service, Contact Centre, Advice & Guidance, Accounting, IT Professionals, IT, Retail, Team Leading, Management, Warehousing & Distribution and Polymers. We work in partnership with employers to help develop people to meet the needs of their business and gain a recognised qualification.

Framework

The Gateway 2 Polymers framework includes employees undertaking the following components:

Level 2 Certificate in Polymer / Polymer Composite Operations

The Level 2 Certificate in Polymer / Polymer Composite Operations aims to provide a nationally recognised, competence-based qualification for those involved in the Polymer industry, in particular machine operators, setters and supervisors.

This will take 3–6 months to complete and is done so totally on the job by observation, provision of documents used in the process such as check sheets schedules and work orders, and Q&A

Polymer / Polymer Composite Operations

This knowledge pack directly compliments the above NVQ and is separately assessed in order to assure complete understanding of the technical part of the qualification.

Based on the knowledge element of the NVQ this is completed throughout the course (12 months) and coaching will be provided with additional training covered where necessary. This will be assessed along with the NVQ and after if required.

Key Skills / Functional Skills

Will enhance English and Maths skills covering the following key areas: Communications, Application of Number, Information Technology.

Initial diagnostic test for this is 40 minutes per subject. Following this, the necessary workbook will be issued to candidates to support their development. They will need to complete a simple portfolio proving competence. This is often done in conjunction with the NVQ but will also continue on afterwards.

Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) & Personal Learning and Thinking

Skills (PTLS)

The ERR helps the learner to understand their rights and responsibilities when working for an organisation. This does not apply to those who have had 3 or more years of work experience. A simple workbook completed at the start of the qualification and the PTLS element is incorporated into the vocational qualification.

Gateway 2 Polymers qualifications are delivered on business premises and support is provided on a 1:1 basis. This pathway on average lasts 12 months with a structured programme to meet the individuals and organisations needs.
Each candidate will be seen individually for around 1 to 1.5 hours every fortnight and will be expected to carry out some study (key skills) at home with the workbooks provided. Usually 2 hours per week is typical.
