The Royal Navy will be flying in one of their Squirrel helicopters to Telford College next week to mark the start of the ‘Employability and Skills Festival’ which is being hosted by the College on Wednesday, 25 April.
The Squirrel HT1 is used by the Defence Helicopter Training School at Shawbury and will be joining a wide range of major Shropshire employers attending the one day event. These include Epson, Ricoh, Fujitsu, Mail Solutions and Schneider Electric who will all be on hand to pass on their advice to youngsters entering the job market.
Young adults from across the county have been invited to the event to find out all about the world of work and what it is that employers want from new recruits. It will also enable them to explore their options and receive the latest information on local opportunities as well as gaining some experience of the skills required by having a go at a range of stimulating and fun activities.
Sally Lambah, organising the event at Telford College, wants to encourage as many young people as possible to attend the event “This is a great opportunity to bring employers and youngsters together to find out the type of careers that are available and exactly the type of skills and attitude required to commence their career. We will be offering impartial advice in an informal and fun environment”.
Apart from the Royal Navy other armed services including the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines will also be attending and running practical activities as well as providing face-to-face careers advice. Representatives from further education and Universities will offer information on apprenticeships, full and part-time courses and how to access opportunities to progress on to higher education. The emphasis is very much on interaction with the chance to participate in taster activities, various workshops and an up close and personal tour of the helicopter - for the more adventurous also the chance to take on the mighty Telford College climbing wall!
‘The Employability and Skills Festival’ will take place at Telford College on Wednesday April 25 in the main Sports Hall from 10am – 7pm. All welcome. Admission free.
