It’s a grade A success for sporting engineer Austin

Work hard, and play hard . . . it’s a commitment which is paying big dividends for Telford College of Arts and Technology student Augustine Adjei.

The 18-year-old engineering student, from Brookside, is celebrating an A grade after resitting his GCSE Maths exam at TCAT.

Augustine, known as Austin, is studying for an NVQ diploma in Performing Engineering Operations at TCAT, and now hopes to follow this up with a degree at Cardiff University.

Clearing the Maths hurdle is a big boost for the teenager, who is also a dedicated part of TCAT’s football team.

Lecturer Andy Robinson said: “Austin is a member of our men’s football team who train on a Monday evening and play their matches on Wednesday afternoons.

“He is a reliable and strong member of the team – he always tries his hardest at training and in matches, and is a real team player.

“When the news came through that he achieved his grade A in Maths I wasn’t surprised at all, because he is motivated to achieve his best and is always very ambitious on and off the field.”

Austin is also part of a group of students who organise their own strength and conditioning training at TCAT, using gym once a week to work on ‘cardio’ and ‘resistance’ fitness.
