Approximately 20 adult learners from Telford College have gained employment at GKN Sankey and other local companies since completing the College's 4 week welding course.

Some of the learners had been long term unemployed with little experience in the manufacturing industry and they have expressed sheer delight at gaining employment locally.

Newly employed Simon gave his own time to return to the College to speak with current learners on the course about his employment experience and Alan, who initially failed the course, came back, had further training and passed, said that he was over the moon to now be employed.

Dave Price, Training Manager at GKN said, "We have an excellent working relationship with Telford College, our engineering department also works with the college's young apprentices".

The welding course is 16 hours per week and consists of 12 hours practical welding and 4 hours of employability skills.
