Periodically we will post questions and answers here which are often asked of Student Services Advice and Guidance staff
Am I entitled to a free course?
Give sheet of remitted fees eg:
- Job Seekers Allowance: Income Based and contributions based
- Letter to accompany JSA Book
- Income Support
- Working Tax Credit (Dependant upon award letter information has to be under £15,050 per year)
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Benefit
- Social Fund
- Disabled Person's Tax Credit (Dependant upon award letter information)
- Disability Living Allowance (Principals Discretion)
- Incapacity Benefit (Principals Discretion)
- Unwaged dependants of persons in the above categories
- Those in receipt of a State Retirement Pension
- Refugee/Asylum Seeker in receipt of the equivalent of an income based state benefit
- Learners 16 18 years old on a part-time vocational course
- Learners on a Basic Skills programme and a permanent resident of the UK or EU for the last 3 years.
- In receipt of pensions guarantee credit (minimum Income Guarantee)
- Learners under 16 years in fulltime education enrolling on a part-time course.
Learners must be able to produce evidence of their entitlement to benefit or pension, otherwise verification will be required from the appropriate benefit office prior to the enrolment being accepted
If I enrol and pay for a course and change my mind will I get my money back?
On the Initial Assessment and Guidance found at the back of the enrolment form statement says I understand that any fees paid will not be refunded if I withdraw from the course
Exceptions could be for the following reasons
- Medical Reasons
- Change in Course Fee
- Sponsor now paying fee
- Remitted fee applicable
- Change in Work Pattern
Can I just turn up for a course
No because we have maximum places on courses and these have to be planned Within the College for tutors, rooms and Health and Safety reasons
