MIKE LOWE C.B.E.

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant Mike spent 12 months in industry before returning to his present firm of Tranter Lowe where he has been the Seniors Partner since 1982. Mike was the President of Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, Training and Enterprise from 1992 until 2002. He was Chairman of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust from 1987 until 2002 and is now the President of the Trust.
He is a past Governor of New College Wellington and has been a Governor of Telford College for a number of years and Chair since 1998.
In the 2001 New Years Honours List he was awarded a CBE for his Services to Education Training and Business Support and had the honour in 2005/6 of holding office of High Sheriff of Shropshire. He is also a Deputy Lieutenant for the County.

HAROLD WILSON

Harold retired from Telford Development Corporation on its demise in September 1991 after 13 years. His career saw a change from being a Civil Engineer in the North of England for 25 years in the private sector to Human Resource Development within the public sector when he served within the Construction Industry Training Board and then he joined Shropshire County Council in 1971.
Harold is Chairman of Unison retired members for Shropshire.
Harold has been a Governor of Telford College since 1987 and Chair of the Corporation between 1992 and November 1998.

DAVID JONES

David was born and bred in the Wellington area and after graduating in Management Science from Manchester University and a short spell with the Royal Bank of Scotland in Manchester, returned to Telford working in personnel roles in subsidies of GKN and TI. In March 1987 David joined NEC Technologies as Head of Personnel. He was the first UK employee in one of the largest of Telford's Japanese inward investments. David was involved in numerous other aspects of the start up factory build and rapid development as well as its subsequent downsizing. During this period David became a Chartered Fellow of the IPD. He left the Company in 1999. After a brief spell with Dunlop Tyres, in 2000 David joined Synnex UK in Telford as HR Manager.

David has been a Governor of Telford College since 1989

RICK TYRER

Rick began working at Shropshire County Council in the Architect's Department at Shrewsbury in 1964 as a trainee quantity surveyor.
In 1969 he joined the Quantity Surveying Team at Telford Development Corporation and completed his professional examinations through part time education at Wolverhampton Polytechnic and became a Professional Associate of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in 1972.
As a Principal Surveyor he worked in the Commercial Department responsible for the maintenance and repair of all commercial and industrial premises. Rick gained a diploma in project management through Reading University and the RICS.
He joined the Commission for New Towns and was responsible for all surveying functions in connection with the maintenance and repair of the built assets throughout Telford and Redditch and completed his service with CNT as Assistant Director in 1998. He is currently practising as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with Cyril Orchard Management Ltd based in Telford.

JACK SHEARMAN

Jack had been the Chief Executive of the BPTA before his retirement in 1995.  The BPTA is an independent company and registered charity which is the lead body and training organiser  for  both the  plastic and rubber industries in the U.K.  Between 1986 - 1990 he was Chief Executive of the Plastics Processing  Industry  Training  Board and Director of training for  that  Board  form  1982  - 1986.
Jack has been a Governor of Telford College since 1990.

JOAN NORTON

Joan was employed as a private secretary for 35 years by the Walker Group of Donnington which covered 5 subsidiary companies.  For 22 years she was private secretary to the Chairman.
Joan is a member of the U.K. Federation of Business and Professional Women, a past President of Wrekin Club and a member of the National Education Network.
Joan has served on the Governors at Telford College since 1984.

RAY HOOF

Ray has until his recent retirement been the  Director of the Telford Shopping Centre since 1978. He was formerly employed by the Telford Development Corporation as a Finance and Estates Manager. Ray holds several offices throughout the area such as Chairman of Telford and District Society for Mentally Handicapped Children and Adults and was former Chairman of Birchbank School Governors. He serves on the Board of Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust and is a trustee of Meeting Point House in Telford Town Centre.

ROGER BETTERIDGE

After obtaining a Masters degree in Numerical Analysis at Southampton University, Roger started his career in the Civil Service doing Operational Research within the Treasury. From 1982 to 2008 he has worked for the Inland Revenue in Telford, apart from a four year period on secondment as Chief Technical Advisor on a United Nations development project in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania. He currently specialises in the measurement of outputs and productivity for all aspects of the different services provided by the Inland Revenue’s IT suppliers

Roger has served as a co-opted Member of the Audit Committee since 2001 and was formally elected to the Board in September 2007

RICHARD OVERTON

Richard  has lived in St Georges all his life and has been a Parish Councillor since 1994 and a Borough Councillor for the area for the past three and half years.

As a Councillor, he sees one of his main roles as being a link between the Council and the local community trying to break down barriers and ease communication, and also as a community leader helping to explain decisions and the directions of the council.

He has been a Junior Football Manager with Oakengates Rangers FC for two and half years and am also now club Treasurer and was previously a Scout Leader for St Georges & Priorslee Scout Group and a school governor at the local primary school.

JOHN DIXON

John was born and bred in Crewe, Cheshire. His first job was working for Dr. Beeching rationalising the railway system until 1967.

John joined Michelin Tyre Co. where he ended up managing their Warehousing & Distribution Dept. During that period he obtained the Diploma in Management Studies and studied French. He left in 1971 to become self employed as an Independent Financial Advisor which he is still today.

John is Councillor for Brookside for the Borough of Borough Telford & Wrekin Council and a Parish Councillor for Hollinswood & Randlay.

John is also a governor at the Lord Silkin School

His daughter is Deputy Head of Birches Head Comprehensive in Stoke on Trent. He is an active Freemason, a keen golfer and has many other interests. 

JONATHAN LLOYD

After graduating in Town Planning in 1974 from the University of Wales Institutes of Science and Technology in Cardiff, Jonathan began his career in North Wales working for Glyndwr District Council. In 1978 he moved to Telford to work in the Planning Department of Wrekin Council and has worked for the council ever since during which time he has held a number of posts within Planning, Economic Development and the Chief Executive's Unit. Jonathan is currently employed as a Co-ordinator of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum World Heritage Site, a role which brings him into regular contact with Telford College. Jonathan was formerly a Governor of Abraham Darby School in Madeley and John Fletcher Junior School in Madeley.

MANDY THORN

Mandy has considerable experience in the Care Home sector and joined the family business setting up the Uplands Nursing Home in January 2004 and built and opened the largest purpose built care home in Shropshire in 2006. She is Managing Director of both Marches Care Ltd and Marches Care Consultancy Ltd.

Mandy is a Director of the National Care Association and Chairman of the Shropshire Partners in Care Ltd.

Much of her previous career was spent in the commercial sector, predominantly working in the car industry. In the early 1990s her family was resident in South Africa.

GRAHAM HUMPHREYS

The majority of Graham’s forty year career has been spent in packaging manufacture and after spending 18 years as M.D. of a private packaging manufacturer, based at head office in Preston, employing 250 people at 4 sites around the U.K., before retiring (only for 12 months)and selling the business.

In 1995 Graham started Eurofilms Extrusion Ltd., at his Hortonwood site and after 14 years employs 60 staff manufacturing palletwrap stretchfilm on a 24/7 basis, with an annual turnover of £20 million servicing a large customer base both here and Mainland Europe. His current role is Chairman.

NEIL STONEHOUSE

Neil is the Headteacher at the Phoenix School in Dawley.

RUSSELL BALL

Russell graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in Accounting & Finance and is a fellow of the institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.  He commenced his career with Chartered Accountants in Dudley followed by 4 years at local chartered accountants.  Russell is now a Director of DE Ball Ltd. in Wellington a family firm of Chartered Accountants with 8 staff supporting a wide range of clients with a number of financial services.

JANET ELLIS – PRINCIPAL

ANNE JACKSON – STAFF MEMBER

Anne has worked at the College for a total of 18 years in the Learning Resource Centre and currently has the role of Deputy LRC Manager.  Working in such a central location she has come to know and be known by most of the staff and students in the College and is fully dedicated to the College and its future developments.

She is a soloist and member of Jade Singers choir and Wellington Twinning Association and enjoys music, travel, DIY and walking the dogs.

CHRIS GOSLING – STAFF MEMBER

Chris has been a lecturer at TCAT since 1990 and now has the role of Schools Liaison Coordinator.

He has taught on a wide variety of courses across a range of Directorates mainly in the curriculum area of Leisure Studies. He has also led the business team delivering to the 14-16 cohort via the Increased Flexibility provision. Some of his recent responsibilities include rugby coaching with the Sports Academy and developing links to local secondary schools through the Schools Liaison service
