About HealthTec

The Patient Journey:

Students experience the journey of a heart attack casualty from the point of his collapse at home through to his recovery and rehabilitation.

The day starts with an introduction to the various healthcare professions with who you may encounter during a patient journey. Students learn about myocardial infarction and the workings of the heart.

Students will then move into our bedsit where they will discover a casualty, who has suffered a heart attack. The basics of CPR will be covered before the casualty is transferred to our ambulance where the students will learn about the inner workings of the ambulance and the equipment they use.

Patient Transfer:

The patient is then transferred to our hospital setting where each student will have their own job role in the department and will have to carry out the tasks of that professional.

After the casualty has been stabilised the students will then experience how a patient can be cared for in a hospital ward and how they can be helped through rehabilitation back in the community.

The students will discover the different roles in the NHS and how they work together as a multi–disciplinary team whilst learning about the science behind the heart attack and the associated treatment.

Throughout the scenario the learners will see for themselves the implications of the lifestyle choices they make and how heart attacks can be avoided.

The Patient Journey scenario is suitable for up to 15 learners. It covers units within the Health and Social Care curriculum and core science whilst the causes and effects of a heart attack and the job roles covered also make it highly relevant for Citizenship and PSHE.
