Engineering Apprentices on IMECHE Accredited Courses

Apprentices studying towards a qualification in Engineering at Telford College now have the added bonus of studying on an Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMECHE) accredited course, which will give an extra boost to their final qualification at the end of their training period..

Regional Apprentice of the Year Award for Josh

19 year old Josh Brown from Wolverhampton, began his Apprenticeship in March 2010 at Essington Fruit Farm. His assessments have been carried out by Telford College, and he has been supported throughout by his employer and his colleagues to learn his trade. Josh decided that he wanted a career in Butchery, and has been able to fulfill this ambition by learning essential butchery skills whilst working and earning a wage.

South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare Pledge 57 Apprentices!

From the beginning of Telford Colleges 100 in 5 Day Challenge, South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare were determined to be part of the challenge! They saw the appeal of having apprentices within their organisation because of the unique way they can be trained and molded to the companies' requirements. At the time of the challenge, South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare signed the pledge for 1 apprentice, with the view of taking on more in the future.

What Happened After the 100 in 5 Days Challenge..?

After 739 Miles, 162 Hand-shakes, 44 signatures, 10 pens, 3 polo shirts, 1 pledge board and numerous Starbucks, the Telford College marketing team were able to return to base in "The Beast" with their promised 100 Apprenticeship pledges in just 5 days...in actual fact, they managed to exceed everyone's expectations by returning to College with 111 Apprenticeship vacancies pledged.

Why an Apprenticeship?

For people who are currently seeking work, or those who have just collected their final grades from school or College, there are many different options available to help gain new skills and qualifications. Some people opt into Further and Higher Education. For others, however, the formal route of College or University is not for them.

Study for a CIPD Qualification and Achieve Associate Membership.

This year Telford College of Arts and Technology is once again offering the CIPD Certificate in HR Practice (CHRP) and are launching the Certificate in Learning and Development Practice (CLDP) as well. Both these qualifications are Foundation Qualification (Level 3) and on successful completion, provide the academic evidence to enable students with sufficient practical experience and evidence, to apply for upgrade to Associate Member. They are ideal for those who are experienced in HR/L&D, but want a qualification and route to membership to support their experience, as well as for those wanting to start a career in these areas.

Telford College FREE App Now Available for Download

Telford College has today launched an iPhone app for students to get the latest information from the College. The FREE app, now available to download from the App store features:

  • Link to College Apprenticeships website
  • Link to the College website
  • Information request form
  • College Gallery
  • Location Map
The app aims to provide a link to key information that prospective students, applicants and current students need from the College. Alison Gray, Marketing Manager said, "This is only the start in a series of exciting further developments for the app, we want to be able to evolve the app and provide lots more functions in the future. It enhances our communications with current and potential students and we hope that they engage with us about its functionality and provide feedback and suggestions." Telford College doesn't just want to limit the app to those with iPhones, they are already in discussions with the developer to make it available on all smart phone platforms soon to further encourage learners to have a fun and user friendly way to access College information.
