is a short guide to help you understand the four key routes available for your son or daughter here on one single campus at Telford College.

Route 1

Full time education A levels & 7th Form
Most parents have heard of A levels, understand that they are academic subjects and know that students will need to perform well in exams to achieve good grades.
From September 2018, Telford College will have a new £2.5 million A level study centre known as the 7th Form. The 7th Form is so-called because it is more than a
sixth form – it directly links A levels and skills training with university and employment.
Students can choose from 30 A level subjects or select specific A level combinations. They can also select our new combined programmes, focused on ten key employment career routes with the support of external industry mentors.
These career routes are being developed with employers and leading universities.

Route 2

Full time education BTEC and Vocational
If there is a subject your son or daughter really enjoys, or a career they are already set on, a vocational course could be the perfect choice.
The great thing about our vocational programmes is that students hone their employability skills in a certain trade or profession, get valuable work experience and involvement from employers, and still have the option to go on to university. They’ll learn in industry-standard training facilities with all the latest equipment and resources.
Students can join the programmes at level 3 (equivalent to three A levels and accepted by most UK universities), level 2 (GCSE equivalent) level 1 and entry level.

Route 3

Apprenticeships
Forget everything you know about the old YTS or apprenticeships schemes.
Apprenticeships are no longer just a route to learning a trade. They offer dynamic learning in a range of high level industries such as law, accounting, business, IT and more, with qualifications all the way up to degree level.
Apprenticeships offer the chance to get straight into a career, earning a salary alongside studying a qualification. This ensures that apprentices have lots of future opportunities whether in the workplace, or through going on to university level
study in future.
You can study intermediate apprenticeships (equivalent to five GCSEs at grades 9-4), advanced apprenticeships (equivalent to A levels) or higher apprenticeships (incorporating university degree qualifications).

Route 4

Traineeships
Traineeships are focused on providing a short-term work placement and supporting young people with their confidence and employability skills.
Traineeships can be perfect for those who didn’t do so well in their GCSEs and need help with getting career-ready.
Those who successfully complete a work placement on a traineeship could progress onto an apprenticeship or full time course.
